Biocular balance: checking the direction of polarization

The following instructions will help you ensure that your refractive equipment and SiVIEW are correctly configured for polarized biocular balancing.

Requirements

Make sure your refraction equipment is polarization-compatible (please refer to manufacturer’s instructions).

Quick setup in SiVIEW Exam

Activate biocular balance by polarization :

  1. Open the SiVIEW Exam application.
  2. Click on the burger menu (icon on the top-left corner of the screen).

3. Select “Preferences“.

4. Ensure that the Biocular examination “by polarization ” option is activated.

How can you quickly check that your devices and SiVIEW are correctly configured?

1. Initial setup case history :

Select a subject aged 40, with no case history, a “deep” eye examination and a maximum binocular acuity ceiling of 15/10, follow the steps below to quickly access the polarization test :

2. Setting starting values :

  • Enter values equal to 0 for each eye (OD and OS).
  • Please enter the pupillary distance to begin the examination.

Specific steps for each eye (OD and OS)

Please follow these steps to achieve biocular balance as quick as possible.

1. Examination of the right eye (OD):

  • Read the visual acuity line of 10/10.

  • Read the 12/10 visual acuity line.

  • Answer “No” to the validation question.

  • Select proposition 2.

  • Select Same twice (the dots cloud question)

2. Examination of the left eye (OS):

  • Read the visual acuity line of 10/10.

  • Read the 12/10 visual acuity line.

  • Answer “No” to the validation question.

  • Select proposition 2.

  • Select Same twice (the dots cloud question)

Binocular and polarization test

1.Binocular vision:

  • Read the lines at 12/10.

  • Answer “No

  • Answer “Yes

2. Checking polarization:

Sit on the chair in the position of a patient undergoing an eye examination and look through the refraction head (keep your glasses on if you wear them).

  • If you close your left eye, your Right Eye (OD) should see the TOP line.
  • If you close your right eye, your Left Eye (OS) should see the BOTTOM line.
  • Feel free to perform the test several times, successively hiding your left eye and your right eye, to ensure that each eye sees the correct line.

3. If you notice a polarity inversion

  • In the event of polarity inversion (right eye sees downwards and left eye sees upwards), please contact us so that we can reverse the polarization.
