Once the sphere has been determined, SiVIEW continues the examination by identifying or verifying the astigmatism, using either dots or a visual acuity line.

If there is no cylinder in the initial prescription, an axis search is performed using the 4-position test. If a preference is expressed, the axis is refined and the cylinder power is then verified.

When a cylinder is already present, SiVIEW generally verifies the axis before adjusting the cylinder power. For low levels of astigmatism, the cylinder is retained only if it provides a measurable visual benefit.
